The Division of Control and Accounts is required to "control and make records of all payments into and out of the state treasury" (Ala. Acts, 112, p. 144 [1939]). These machine posted ledger cards show tax monies received from each county tax collector and probate judge. The information includes the voucher number, amount collected for state, soldier, and school taxes, and the cumulative total. The records for the years 1932-1939 and 1952-1954 are indexed. Some of these records were created by the state auditor when such duties were performed by that office. Agency history record ALAV86-A163 describes the history and the functions of the Dept. of Finance of Alabama, the agency responsible for the creation of this record series. Sub-agency history record ALAV90-A12 describes the history and the functions of the Office of State Comptroller of Alabama, the office responsible for the creation of this record series.
