The eastern editors visit to Vacaville : photographs, 1892 May 21st.

The photographs depict two scenes along Main Street with a railroad, parade of horse-drawn carts and several buildings, one displaying the American flag. Vacaville was hosting eastern newspaper editors in order to promote their town and orchard industry. The visit followed a major earthquake, however the residents managed to decorate the town and provide entertainment for the press. Includes photocopy of Edward J. Wickson's and William R. Nutting's "California Illustrated No. 1, The Vacaville Early Fruit District, " 1888, courtesy of the Vacaville Museum which holds an original. Also includes "Quake doesn't dim Vaca showcase, " 2001, written by Sabine Goerke-Shrode, describing the event photographed.
