Legal case files, 1974-1996.

The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. These are the legal files created under several governor. These files contain correspondence, injunctions, legal briefs, memoranda, pleadings, and other types of documents. The first three boxes contain information on the payment of attorney fees. Some attorneys and legal firms represented include Graddick and Belser; Rushton, Stakely, Johnston and Grarrett; Lange, Simpson, Robinson and Somerville, George Besk; Bonald W. Wise, and others. The box, SG21562, contains summary information on various educational lawsuits, such as the educational desegrefation lawsuit of Knight v. State of Alabama, the 1967 Lee v. Macon County Board of Education lawsuit, and others. General cases may be found in SG21563 and SG21568. Some cases in those boxes are Ellen Tolbert, et al, v. State of Alabama; University of South Alabama (USA) Foundation v. Board of Trustees of USA; and Donald Watkins v. Alabama State University. Legal case file involving state agencies from the ABC Board through the Dept. of Youth Services are in SG21564-21567, case involving William J.
