Attested copy of correspondence, 1887 October 3.

Handwritten copy of a letter which was furnished to Professor Horatio O. Ladd of the University of New Mexico by the authority of General Grierson. Includes correspondence between the Secretaries of War and Interior and three endorsements requesting appropriate action in regard to problems between settlers on Navaho reservation land on the San Juan River, New Mexico, and the Navaho. This correspondence includes a letter from W.C. Endicott, Secretary of Interior and a letter from Lamar to H.M. Teller, U.S. Senator from Colorado.

Rev. Horatio O. Ladd, educator and minister, was born in Hallowell, Maine on August 31, 1839. He was educated at Bowdoin and the Yale Divinity School. In 1879 he was appointed principal of the Santa Fe Academy. After an unsatisfactory relation with the Academy school board, he helped found the University of New Mexico at Santa Fe in 1881.
