Tom Copeland papers, 1969-1985.

Minutes, correspondence, personal evaluations, newspaper clippings, printed matter, audio tapes, and other papers documenting Copeland's involvement in communes, cooperatives, and anarchist movements in the Twin Cities. In September 1969 Copeland and 32 other Macalester College students and one faculty member rented two houses on St. Paul's Summit Avenue and opened the Macalester College "Inner College," an experiment in communal living, which lasted until May 1970. In September 1970 a few students from the Inner College purchased a house in St. Paul and named it the Emma Steffens Commune. The commune disbanded in November 1974. During the summer months, the group experimented with rural communes, first in Wisconsin, then in Minnesota.
