Autograph book and 28 letters to Libby's mother and brother Joseph in Portland, Maine from various places, including Virgin Bay, San Francisco, Auburn, Michigan City, China Bar and Portland, Oregon. The letters provide a picture of California during the Gold Rush period, including daily life in the gold camps, working conditions of miners, natural catastrophes and personal problems.
