"According to the accounts maintained by Johann Christian Alexander Müller of Jena, payment official of the Grand Duchy, and submitted here on receipts and expenditure with certain scientific institutes of the same place, from 1st April 1821 to the present time in 1822, following scrutiny, justified, also recalculated here and concluded, it emerged that not only the sums recorded were not substantiated with the proper attestation but also the expenditure was at most just adequately confirmed with provisional receipts and transferred to the reserves under the earlier accounts, and all have been invoiced except for the nine hundred and sixty-four thalers still to be granted: 21 Gd 2 7/8 pf so that we can thus issue a receipt to the aforesaid payment official Müller for this account with the reservation, however, that he should include and grant the aforesaid reserve in his next account as a payment. Weimar, this 27th September 1822. Grand Duchy of Saxony, ultimate supervision over all institutes for science and art." Signed by: "J. W. von Goethe."
