ALsS, 1865 Apr. 16-18 and May 13-18, concerning Abraham Lincoln's death and funeral.

The Keans' company was in New York when they learned of Lincoln's assassination. In the first letter, to her daughter Mary, Ellen Kean gives news of the assassination and the hunt for the conspirators, the effect of Lincoln's death on the nation in general and theaters and their tour in particular, and other news of the company. The second letter, written from Baltimore to a Miss Sherritt, enlarges on the news, and adds descriptions of the funeral procession and the trial of the conspirators.
