Alexander Roderic McLeod papers, 1821, 1843-1869.

Parchment document ordering the appointment of Alexander McLeod as chief trader for the Hudson's Bay Company in the Territory of "Ruperts Land" and surrounding areas (March 28, 1821); a notarized notification of nonpayment of draft, drawn by McLeod, and issued in Saint Louis (Nov. 3, 1843); and correspondence. The correspondence consists of four letters (1844-1852) sent from Canada by a brother, John Stuart McLeod, and two sisters, Sara Ballenden and Agnes Teasdale, to Alexander McLeod (St. Paul, Minn.). The letters deal primarily with family matters, and with some information in John's letter (Feb. 1, 1844) on the settlement of Fort Vancouver (Wash.). The fifth letter (Oct. 18, 1869) is to an aunt, Nancy McLeod, in West Saint Paul (Minn.) by an unknown author and is partially written in Dakota.
