These journals document Governor Preston H. Leslie's official actions, which include appointing and accepting resignations from civil officials; granting pardons and reprieves, and remitting fines; approving expenditures; and approving and rejecting legislation. Included is a newspaper transcript of Governor Leslie's 1871 inaugural address; a proclamation from the governor reporting the Chicago fire of 1871 and asking the citizens of Kentucky to contribute to the relief effort; and the appointment of Nathaniel S. Shaler as head of the Kentucky Geological Survey.
