Letters Sent (a series), 1861-1889.

Copies of letters sent to Members of Congress, Governors of States, State Adjutants General, chiefs of bureaus of the War Department, Army officers, and others relating principally to the recruiting, organization, service, and discharge of Volunteer organizations and officers of the United States Volunteers. The letters are generally signed by an Assistant Adjutant General. From 1871-1889 copies of endorsements are encluded.
