Andrew J. Stone, gold seeker, came to California from Dunbarton, NH, in 1852. He traveled on the steamship "Northern Light" to Nicaragua, crossed the isthmus, and continued to journey on the steamship "Lewis," arriving in San Francisco after a journey of sixty-three days. Stone worked in the mines in El Dorado and Placer Counties, in a sawmill, and as a steam car engineer for a quartz mine. After his return home, he served in the Union army in the Civil War.
