Notebook, 1841-1853.

Notebook, 1841-1853, of miscellaneous projects at Fort Livingston, La., which was begun in 1835, built of masonry, and located on Grande Terre Island, Barataria Bay. Among the projects described were the estimate to build a railroad to the fort; foundation, arch and scup work at the fort, 1841-1845; and construction of a brick cistern in the officers' quarter, 1841; construction of embankments, 1841; foundation for and construction of the forts' walls, 1841-1845; and reports on settlement of the walls after construction, 1845-1851; a memorandum of instructions for the prosecution of the work, 1845; and other memoranda. There are also cost estimates and reports of costs quarterly on various materials, as well as numerous diagrams and sketches. Most of the work apparently was done by the Corps of Engineers.
