Minor was born on 1783 Jan. 4, in Dinwiddie Co., Va., to Thomas Carr and Anne (Redd) Minor. He read law under his uncle, married Frances Throckmorton in 1809, and then settled in Huntsville, Madison Co., Ala., in 1816. He was a member of the Ala. Constitutional Convention in 1819, and was elected by the first state legislature as supreme court reporter.
