Civil War letters, January 18, 1862-September 6, 1864, sent chiefly to his wife (Mary) of Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey. The letters, most written from Virginia, include references to numerous battles, among them Williamsburg, Bristoe Station, Bull Run (1862), Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, and the siege of Petersburg.
