Typescript account of the August, 1858, race between the steamers "Grey Eagle" and "Itasca" from Dunleith (Ill.) to St. Paul (Minn.) in order to deliver Queen Victoria's first transatlantic cablegram to President Buchanan, then in St. Paul. The "Grey Eagle's" captain was Morrill's grandfather, Daniel S. Harris.
