Charles F. Johnson papers, 1846-1866 (bulk 1861-1866).

Contains letters to his wife Mary while serving in the 81st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and later in the 18th regiment of the Veteran Reserve Corps and the Freedmen's Bureau. Also includes documents relating to the Invalid Corps (later known as the Veteran Reserve Corps) and other miscellaneous personal papers. Letters were used for the book, The Civil War Letters of Colonel Charles F. Johnson, Invalid Corps, edited by Fred Pelka.
