Family papers, 1828-1966.

Papers spanning the years 1828-1966 (bulk around 1875) relating to the Sears and Pickford families. The collection includes letters, financial papers and genealogies; catalogued separately are photographs, prints & drawings, books, pamphlets and artefacts. Materials relate notably to Capt. Isaac Sears (1785-1836), involved in trade with the West Indies, his son Isaac Henry Sears (1833-1900), a Boston leather merchant and Henry Pickford (1831-1907) Civil War veteran, locksmith and inventor. Much information is provided to document middle-class life in Chelsea in the last quarter of the 19th c. including reminiscences of girlhood by Bertha Frances Pickford Urann (1875-1966) contained in her unpublished manuscript "A Speck of earth and a sliver of time." Other segments of the collection contain papers relating to Mt. Auburn Cemetery, the Lynn-Boston Railroad, Sears Chapel, Longwood, and the suffragette Maud Wood Park (1871-1955).
