Records consist primarily of minutes, reports, and correspondence documenting the North, West, Punjab, and India Missions. It documents the Board of Foreign Missions' ministry in India, but also reflects the development of the modern Indian state in a broader sense, including: reaction to foreigners generally (and Protestant missionaries specifically), discontent with British rule, the development of the Independence movement, the emergence and activities of national figures like Gandhi and Nehru, and the 1947 partition and its resulting problems.

The first Presbyterian missionaries to Japan arrived in Yokohama in 1859.
