Gordon Bottomley letters to Wallace Nichols, 1935-1947.

The collection consists of three letters from Bottomley to Wallace Nichols: 21 Aug. 1935, thanking him for a "noble present," with news of his activities and commentary on some books; 21 April 1947, with news of his illness and activities, and commenting on his correspondence with Masefield; 6 June 1947, apologizing for not writing due to his illness, but full of praise and support for Nichols's book, Simon Magus, and comparing the pleasure of reading it with other books he has treasured.

Gordon Bottomley was an English author, known primarily for his verse plays. Born in Yorkshire, he took a job as a bank clerk, but had to give it up due to a tubercular condition, which contributed to his comparatively quiet life. He was an accomplished poet, and devoted himself to reviving the art of verse drama, writing some thirty plays, almost all of them in verse. He remains a gifted and visionary Georgian author.
