John Franklin Enders was born in West Hartford, Connecticut on February 10, 1897. He received the A.B. from Yale University (1920), and the M.A. in English (1922), and the Ph.D. in Bacteriology and Immunology (1930) from Harvard University. Enders taught at the Harvard University Medical School from 1930 to 1972, and was professor emeritus from 1967 to 1985.
