Oscar Zeta Acosta Papers 1936-1990

The Oscar Zeta Acosta Collection contains material reflecting his work as a writer, lawyer and Chicano political activist. Acosta is most well known as the author of the classic Chicano books (1972), and (1973). Legal Proceedings, biographical documents, correspondence, writings and photos are part of this collection. Acosta was a writer, lawyer and political activist, born April 8, 1935 in El Paso, Texas and raised near Modesto, Calif. He served as an attorney for Chicano rights in East Los Angeles from 1968-1973. He disappeared in Mazatlan, Sinaloa in 1974 and is presumed dead.
