Coronado local history photograph and map collection 1849-2005

Coronado Public Library's photograph collection includes images of Coronado and other areas of San Diego County from the late 1800s to 2005 that are of historical interest. Images document early aviation and the United States Navy; commercial, residential, and public buildings, including businesses and restaurants; the fire department, public schools and the public library. The map collection includes both maps and charts of Southern California and the San Diego Bay dating from 1849 to 1968.

The San Diego and Coronado Ferry Company provided ferry service for pedestrians and vehicles from San Diego to North Island and Coronado. It was incorporated by H. L. Story and Elijah S. Babcock on April 14, 1886 and was a subsidiary of the Coronado Beach Company. The company's first function was to transport workers building the Hotel del Coronado and to promote the development of the island as a health resort and spa.
