Biographical Note Fred Warren Crandall was born to George Washington Crandall and Emily (Chaffee) Crandall on July 28, 1858 in Herrick, Pennsylvania. One of five children, Fred was raised a farmer’s son; however, from an early age, he aspired to join the clergy, and in the mid-1870s traveled to Irvington, California to study theology.
