Alfred de Vries Papers 1937-1944 1944

This collection was originally part of the Alfred H. de Vries map collection. The map collection is available through UC Berkeley and contains 416 volumes in addition 106 individual sheet maps. This collection consists of original manuscript “Maps and their Makers Through the Centuries: A General Handbook for Map History”, newspaper clippings regarding the exhibit of his map collection in Amsterdam, 1937, and a copy of “On the Development of Cartography” presented to the Cercle de Bibliophile in Amsterdam in April, 1936. Also included are photos of the map making process, a lecture given to the San Francisco Museum of Art on “400 Years of Mapmaking”, 1 miniature map, a sheet of stamps from various counties and personal/business correspondence.
