Biographical information, correspondence, minutes, newspaperclippings, reports, and printed materials documenting activities of Black Episcopalpriest Denzil Carty in the Protestant Episcopal Church and in many racial,interracial, and interdenominational organizations in St. Paul (Minn.). Carty, bornin the British West Indies in 1904, was educated and ordained in New York City,served as a chaplain in World War II, and came to St. Paul in 1950 as rector of St.Philip's Episcopal Church, remaining there until his 1975 retirement.

Denzil Angus Carty was born in St. John's Antigua, British West Indies, on March 30, 1904, the son of Robert A. and Cecil (Edwards) Carty. He was educated in the New York City high schools, the City College of New York, and the General Theological Seminary, New York City, where he studied for the Episcopal priesthood.
