In 1885 Swedish settlers in northern St. Paul began mission work for what would later become First Covenant Church. In 1889 a church building was acquired on Burgess Street and termed the Little Mission House. Later that year the building was moved to a lot on Woodbridge and Milford streets and given the name Elim Chapel. In 1912 two lots on Como Avenue were purchased and a building erected in 1913.
