The Burlington Northern Clown Club and Band began as a community service under the former Great Northern Railway Company, probably as early as the 1950s. The band performed along the rail line at community festivals, charity events, and at children's hospitals, senior citizen residences, and schools for the underprivileged. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
