Claude Fayette Bragdon, architect, stage designer, author, and poet, was born in Oberlin, Ohio, on August 1, 1866. In 1891 he moved to Rochester, N.Y., and in 1923 he settled in New York City until his death in 1946. His architectural designs include Rochester's New York Central Railroad Station and the Rochester First Universalist Church. Architect and artist Harvey Ellis was born in Rochester, New York, on October 17, 1852. After attending West Point for a brief time in 1871 he is thought to have studied architecture and painting in New York. In 1877 he helped found the Rochester Art Club and during the next few years gained local acclaim as an artist.
