Texas Neural Tube Defect Project Archives 1980 - 2003

The Texas Neural Tube Defect Archives are a collection of historical documents regarding the study of neural tube defects (NTDs) in Texas during the Texas Neural Tube Defect Project (TNTDP). Gathered by the Texas Birth Defect Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch (BDES) of the Texas Department of State Health Services, the collection covers the 1991 Brownsville anencephaly cluster and the 8-year federally-funded project that both investigated risk factors for neural tube defects and provided counseling and folic acid supplements to mothers to help prevent recurrent NTD cases.
