Bexar County Medical Society Records 1853 - 1986

Chartered in 1853 as the Bexar Medical Society, membership includedphysicians in Bexar and Medina Counties. It was thus the first county medical society in the State of Texas. Its founders included Drs. George Cupples, J.H. Lyons, Ferdinand Herff, and F.M. Giddings. In 1903 the Society was reorganized as the Bexar County Medical Society. In 1970, the Bexar County Medical Library donated its book collection and historical records to the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library of the Dolph Briscoe, Jr. Library at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
