Dr. Frank Paschal was a San Antonio physician who was an active crusader for public health measures and was widely known for his achievements in tuberculosis treatment and control. He graduated from Louisville Medical College in 1873 and interned for one year at Louisville Hospital. He practiced first in Chihuahua, Mexico then returned to establish a practice in San Antonio in 1892. He served as president of the West Texas Medical Society, the Medical Association of Texas, and the Texas Surgical Society and was a member of the state Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Surgeons. He established charities in San Antonio and helped build the Physicians’ and Surgeons’ Hospital. The Paschal collection includes biographical materials; correspondence; certificates received; case reports and medical writings; miscellaneous other writings; and addresses to medical societies. Several addresses discuss the history of medicine in San Antonio and Bexar County.

San Antonio physician, President of the Board of Health, City Health Officer, and Director of the City Hospital. Dr. Paschal was President of the West Texas Medical Association in 1893 and served as President of the Texas State Medical Association in 1903.
