Raymond Benjamin Harris (1838-1910) was born at Palmero, Bryan County, Georgia, and studied medicine in the Savannah Medical College, graduating in 1859. Benjamin Franklin Cheatham (1820-1886) was born in Nashville, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army as captain and colonel in the Mexican War, later going to California, 1849-1853, and returning to Tennessee to serve as major general in the state militia during the 1850s. Dr. Raymond B. Harris was born in Bryan County, Georgia, the son of Dr. Raymond Harris. He graduated from Savannah Medical College in 1859. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted as an Assistant Surgeon and was assigned to the First Georgia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, where he served only a few months.
