Reading Wood Black (1830-1867) of Uvalde, Texas, was alandowner and merchant at the head of the Leon River, a commissioner to the Comanche and Kickapoo Indians, and a member of the Texas Legislature (1866). His opposition to treatment of German settlers by Confederate soldiers caused him to flee as a refugee to Mexico during the Civil War.
