Thecollection consists of correspondence, photographs, manuscripts, publications, andextensive other material documenting their work in the field of photojournalism atthe University of Missouri-Columbia, Pictures of the Year contest, Missouri PhotoWorkshops, the honorary photojournalism fraternity Kappa Alpha Mu, and many otherprograms.

Russell Lee was born in Ottawa, Illinois on 21 July 1903. His childhood, although of comfortable middle-class rural American heritage, was marred by tragedy.
