The Jewish Central Information Office was founded by Alfred Wiener, a German Jew who worked for the Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith ( Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens ). In 1933 he fled to Amsterdam where he founded the agency along with David Cohen. The JCIO produced reports to spread word of the activities that were occurring in Nazi Germany. The Congregation Shaareth Israel had its origins in the Jewish community in Lubbock Texas in the early 1930s. As the community grew, members recognized the need to establish a Synagogue. The group's success in business and overall satisfaction with the area enticed more individuals and families to move to Lubbock and join the community.
