As a freelance journalist, Stephen Harrigan has written articles for several publications including Rolling stone, The Texas observer and Texas monthly. He received the Dobie Paisano fellowship in 1977 and acted as president of the Texas Institute of Letters from 1985-87. From 1973-78 Harrigan edited a small poetry magazine titled Lucille.
