Records are correspondence, broadsides, proclamation, land grants, certificates, receipts, and lists, dating from 1846 to 1847, which were created during James Pinckney Henderson's terms as governor of Texas. Also included are records of Lieutenant Governor Albert Clinton Horton, who served as acting governor from May 19, 1846 to December 13, 1846, while Henderson was serving in the Mexican War.

James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of the state of Texas, held office from February 19, 1846 to December 21, 1847. He was born March 31, 1808 in North Carolina and came to Texas in 1836 from Mississippi after raising a company of volunteers to fight for Texas independence. President David G. During the 1950s Governor Price Daniel popularized a tradition of Texas governors honoring citizens of Texas by proclaiming them “Admirals in the Texas Navy.” Citizens receive their honorary title for a number of reasons such as special achievement in government service or athletics.
