Court of Criminal Appeals execution case files 1974-2010

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest criminal court in the state, holding the same position in the area of state criminal law that the Supreme Court holds in civil law. The Court of Criminal Appeals has appellate jurisdiction in all criminal cases (both felonies and misdemeanors). The appellate jurisdiction of the Court of Criminal Appeals is exclusive for cases involving the death penalty and the appeals process in such cases is automatic. These records provide the fullest documentation of those capital cases, each of which ended in the execution of the prisoner (1993-2010). Records include grand jury, hearing, trial, and voir dire examination transcripts, briefs, copies of exhibits, statements, correspondence, memoranda, opinions, motions, death warrants, indexes, juror questionnaires, post-conviction writs of habeas corpus, photographs, videotapes, audio cassettes, floppy discs, and several X-rays, dating 1974-2010.
