Thomas G. Rice, musician, historian, journalist, and photographer, was born in Port Arthur on October 11, 1905, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Rice, of the Thomas Rice Steamship Co. On October 13, 1830, Joseph Vehlein, David G. Burnet, and Lorenzo de Zavala established the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company in New York in order to sell land in their Texas colonies.
