Born in Houston, Texas in 1927, jazz musician Jimmy Ford's career spanned over six decades. His first training as a child of 12 was under the direction of Cliff Dresher, who was a picolo play for the Houston Symphony Orchestra in the 1930s. Later Ford performed playing tenor saxophone with seminal greats such as the Milton Larkin, Maynard Ferguson, and Clark Terry, traversing mainly between New York and Houston. Milton Larkin (1910-1996) was born in Navasota, Texas. After his father's death, his mother brought him to Houston when he was six years old. Larkin started playing the trumpet when he was 16, and was mostly self-taught. He organized his own band in 1936, but he made his name in the early 1940s at Chicago's Rhumboogie Club.
