Roy Faires graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1971 with a B.S. in Radio/Television/Film and in 1973 obtained a B.J. in Broadcast Journalism. He worked for the Austin PBS affiliate KLRU-TV from 1971-1976 where he held several positions as Anchorman, Producer, and Reporter. The modern history of the Texas State Library begins with the creation of the Texas Library and Historical Commission in 1909 (House Bill 142, 31st Texas Legislature, Regular Session).
