In 1991, the Department of Product and Visual Design at NCSU split to form the Department of Graphic Design and the Department of Industrial Design. In 1958 the Department of Product Design has been established. During the 1973-1974 academic year its name changed to the Department of Product/Visual Design, which became "Product and Design" in 1984 or 1985.
