Hau Cheong (Fred) Chan was a graduate student at North Carolina State University in electrical engineering. He died of cancer in 1974 before he could finish his degree. The 1977 Chinese film The Eternal Love, directed by David Ting and filmed at North Carolina State University and Duke Medical Center, is about Chan's life and his struggle with cancer.
