Josephus Daniels, son of Josephus and Mary (Cleves) Daniels, was born in Washington, North Carolina, May 18, 1862. He attended the Wilson Collegiate Institute. On May 2, 1888, he married Addie W. Bagley. Hugh Williams Primrose was one of six sons born to William Stuart Primrose and Ella Williams Primrose. He was born January 21, 1878 and died January 27, 1904. He was a member of the graduating class of 1897. His father, William Stuart Primrose, was a member of the original Watauga Club which helped found the college.
