Ernest L. Gooden Papers 1940s-1970

Materials documenting Ernest L. Gooden's career with the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. Drafts of articles by Mr. Gooden include "Storage Tests on 90 % DDT" and "Rotenone." Research files contain notes, graphs, charts, and articles with labels like "Viscosity," "Weed Killer," "Sieves," and "Zinc Arsenate." Also contained in the collection are a binder of Optical Micrographs from electron microscopes; a patent application by Mr. Gooden for a device that measured the coarseness of powders; hundreds of 3 x 5" cards containing notes, calculations, and authors and their publications; positive glass slides of images taken with electron microscopes (3 1/4 x 4"); photos of electron microscope images (3 x 4"); programs of annual meetings of the Electron Microscope Society of America from 1949 to 1964; and approximately a thousand 3 x 4" cards of chemical compounds. Ernest L. Gooden (1903-1970) was a physicist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and specialized in pesticides.

Ernest L. Gooden (1903-1970) was born in North Carolina. He was a graduate of Duke University and taught high school in North Carolina from 1927 to 1930. He had a 40-year career as a physicist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and specialized in pesticides.
