Harry E. Mitchell was born to Harry Casey and Irene Gladys (Childres) Mitchell in Phoenix, Arizona on July 18, 1940. He graduated from Tempe High School in 1958 and went on to earn his B.A. (1962) and M.P.A. (1980) from Arizona State University. He married Marianne Prevratil on May 5, 1962 and the couple had two children. Mitchell taught high school government and economics and served on the Tempe City Council (1970-1978) before being elected Mayor of Tempe (1978-1996). He was elected to the Ari...
