The university began offering courses ineducation in 1877 and established the Department of Education in 1907. In 1913, thedepartment became the School of Education. In 1932, the department was again created;it remained a department until 1948, when it once more became the School ofEducation. Today the School of Education offers both baccalaureate and graduatedegree programs; it is administered by a dean, who reports to the university'sprovost. Records include orrespondence and other files relating tothe administration of and programs in the School of Education. Also included arefiles relating to the proposed Center for Population and Environmental Education,1970-1974, which was never established.
