Capus M. Waynick (b. 1889), state senator from High Point, N.C., was chair of the joint legislative committee established in 1936 by the North Carolina General Assembly, to consider the 1931 report of the North Carolina Constitutional Commission. The collection includes correspondence of Capus M. Waynick, Albert Coates, and Dillard S. Gardner, concerning revisions to the North Carolina Constitution proposed by the Constitutional Commission, and a few other items. The correspondence consists largely of letters supporting the proposed revisions.

Capus Miller Waynick (1889-1986), born in Rockingham County, N.C., was the son of Joshua James Newton and Anna (Moore) Waynick. He attended the University of North Carolina, and he married Elizabeth McBee in 1915. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and began his political career as a member of the North Carolina House in 1931.
