Jacob Stirewalt License, 1818

Jacob Stirewalt was born in Rowan County, N.C., in 1805. He was married to Henrietta Henkel in 1833 and ordained pastor in Lincoln County, N.C., in 1838. He died in Shenandoah County, Va., in 1869. The collection consists of an 1818 machinery license granting Jacob Stirewalt permission to use patented machinery in a mill on the Coddle Creek of the Rocky River in Cabarrus County, N.C. The license was issued by inventor Oliver Evans, who held the patent.
